Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women is a visual and cultural initiative designed to honour the legacy of Brigit. Founded in 2022 with the support of the Lord Mayor’s Office, steered and funded by Dublin City Council. Brigit: Dublin Celebrating Women honours the Celtic goddess Brigit - Rooted in the ancient festival of Imbolc, the project sought to weave historical reverence with modern representation, creating a visual identity that resonates with Dublin’s diverse and dynamic outlook.
The visual approach needed to respect her historical significance while making her relevant to a modern audience, embodying the multifaceted nature of women today. The illustrations engaged and inspired the public, fostering a renewed appreciation for Brigit as a figure who embodies both ancient wisdom and modern resilience. By celebrating the strength and diversity of Dublin’s women, the project contributed to a broader cultural dialogue on identity, heritage, and progress through the playful nature of colour, print and illustration, bringing a sense of femininity to the city's capital.
